Story Behind
As a child, I remember when the electricity would go out, people would gather around an oil lamp, sitting together on the rug. In that circle of the dim light, everyone became part of the space, sharing stories, building memories, and growing closer. It may have been dark, but the presence of others created a brightness of its own. Around that small flame, feelings took shape, and community was woven as tightly as the rug beneath us.
Warp and Weft
Inspired by my culture, childhood, and the rug weaving traditions of my hometown. In Iranian homes, Persian rugs live alongside people, absorbing joy and sorrow, carrying the presence of the weaver, and holding the marks of daily life. This piece echoes the shape of a rug loom, translating weaving into a 3D form. Clay carries the difficulty of the craft, while yarn holds the delicacy of it.
Threads of Memory
This piece tells the story of a rug, which is an important piece of Iranian culture and daily life. The yarns hanging from the wood pieces represent the rug yarn, dyed, hung under the summer sun, bringing color and life. As the eye moves upward, patterns begin to form on the loom (the wire), shaped through repetition and patience. Each knot of the Persian rug holds a story, first that of the weaver, and later the stories of those who live with the rug, adding their footsteps, life moments, and memories to its surface. The top part of the piece remains open, ready to hold many more stories.
